One of the first recorded plants used for its seeds, often known to accompany the bagel, a flavoring for tahini, an element to hummus, can create a sauce for shawarma (talatoul) and is often mixed with lemon and garlic to make a bread dip — a popular Arab appetizer or mezze. When toasted, the sesame can be eaten by itself.
Medicinal: May be used as a poultice.
