Fennel seed yields both as an herb and a spice.  Its uses include a court bouillon for poaching fish and seafood. Flavours breads, cakes and confectionery. An ingredient in Chinese Five Spice and some curry powders. Several liquors are include fennel . Some of these are fenouillet, akvavit, gin and absinthe.

Fennel Seed, as many other spices, has alternative medicinal uses.  When ground, they release essential oils into the foods, creating additional benefits when added to recipes.

This spice and seasoning pairs with carrots, pumpkin, zucchini, cucumbers and even brussel sprouts.  It used in recipes such as spicy meatballs, to add a unique flavoring to bar-b-que and other hearty spices and seasoning blends. It is added to bread as well. Its uses are wide ranging and varied.

Fennel seed can also ease bloating and female cramps.  It can also be used to ease coughs, and essential oils can be extracted by chewing, crushing or grinding the seeds.
