Aleppo Pepper   whole/freshly ground

Aleppo peppers, also known as Halaby pepper, are a traditional element of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine. Aleppo peppers share equal time with salt-and-pepper in many regions, and it is a typical seasoning for grilled meats and kebabs.

The flavor of Aleppo peppers is similar to a combination of cumin and cayenne pepper. It has a medium to low heat profile at three or four on a scale of 1 to 10 or 10,000 Scoville Heat Units.

This burgundy colored pepper delivers a complex array of flavors and sensations. These desiccated peppers are crushed after drying in the sun to produce their fruity, earthy, warm flavors like hints of citrus, raisins, tomatoes, and spices like cumin. And, with the slow onset of its pleasantly mild heat, you can savor each of its unique flavors with every bite.

Origins

Aleppo peppers are native to Syria in the region of the city of Aleppo, therefore the name. First mentions of the pepper appear in ancient writings over 4000 years old. This batch was grown organically in Southern California with seeds that were imported from Syria.
